How You Can Help

Volunteers are always welcome to assist the Dorothy Menzies Child Care Center by supporting the different services that are available to the children.  All potential volunteers are required to complete the appropriate form and submit it to the Department of Human Services for approval before being accepted as a volunteer.  All volunteers must abide by the rules and policies of the institution.

The following are areas in which you can assist: -

TUTORIAL: Assist the children with home work assignments and provide tutoring to individuals in those subject areas in which they are having problems.

LIFE SKILLS TRAINING: Give presentations on skills that will teach the children good social behaviour and prepare them to become productive citizens.

COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT: Engage in activities that will enhance the appearance of the facilities- repair and paint the buildings, repair/update plumbing and electrical work, replace or refurbish furniture, landscaping the grounds, provide playground equipment etc.

RESPITE CARE ON WEEKEND IN A FAMILY SETTING: Hosting children in your home.  This is done with the permission of the Human Services Department.

EDUCATIONAL AND RECREATIONAL TRIPS: Sponsor trips to help the children to familiarize themselves with different parts of the country while having fun.
